Job Description:

Develop and conduct computer modeling and analysis for generation interconnection studies. These studies include building static and dynamic power system models, performing distribution/transmission import/export analyses, generator capability studies, and guiding clients through the interconnection process, particularly in ERCOT and Western regions. The successful candidate will also gain exposure to other regions across the United States.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

- Build static and dynamic power system models, including new technologies such as inverters, wind turbines, and storage systems, potentially interacting with equipment vendors to determine appropriate parameters.
- Perform distribution/transmission import/export analyses (injection/withdrawal studies), generator capability studies, model quality tests, and benchmarking.
- Provide site selection support for new generation projects.
- Assist in the submission of generation and load interconnection applications to various ISOs (e.g., ERCOT and ISOs and utilities in the Western Interconnect).
- Guide clients through ERCOT?s generator interconnection process, answering process-related questions.
- Participate in working group meetings and case-building efforts on behalf of specific clients as assigned.
- Prepare technical study reports for all studies performed.
- Process, generate, and maintain data as required for all studies.

Power Systems Engineer III Includes all of the above, in addition to:

- Provide on-the-job training or help oversee the work of other Power Systems Engineers and Interns.
- Execute multiple studies/tasks at any given time.
- Perform complex tasks according to good engineering practice and EPE procedures.
- Autonomously and independently execute assigned tasks.
- Participate in multifunctional teams to obtain/provide input, address client comments, and perform technical studies.
- Assist in developing tools, processes, and procedures that enhance engineering study completion.

Qualifications & Skills:

- Strong fundamental understanding of power system concepts.
- Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Flexible with the ability to manage change.
- Strong technical report writing skills.

Required Education and Experience:

Staff I:

- Bachelor?s/Master?s degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on power systems.
- Familiarity with power system software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA, and Aspen.

Staff II:

- Bachelor?s/Master?s degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on power systems.
- 2 - 3 years of experience as a power systems engineer.
- Experience building static and dynamic power system models, and performing import/export analyses, and generator capability studies.
- Experience with power systems software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA, and Aspen.
- Familiarity with automation packages (Python, Matlab, etc.)

Staff III:

- Bachelor?s/Master?s degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on power systems.
- 3-4 years of experience as a power systems engineer.
- Significant experience building static and dynamic power system models, performing import/export analyses, and generator capability studies.
- Experience with power systems software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, Aspen, and TARA.
- Experience automating/programming in Python.
