Position Overview:

Conduct power system studies which particularly relate to existing and future NERC and regional reliability standards. This position will have specific emphasis placed on generator modeling and protection setting coordination.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

- Perform detailed bulk power system studies using various power system software such as PSCAD, PSS/e, TSAT, ETAP, Aspen, PSLF, etc.
- Conduct IBR modeling: steady state, short circuit and dynamic in PSSE.
- Conduct remote and onsite commissioning and compliance testing for conventional and renewable generation projects.
- Perform various compliance technical assessments on IBR facility rating, protection coordination, ride through assessment.
- Process, generate and maintain data as required for other engineering related studies.
- Prepare technical study reports for all studies performed.
- Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.
- Identify training needs and present to the Senior Manager of NERC Compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Identify training needs and present to the Engineering Manager as needed.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.

Power Systems Engineer III Includes all of the above, in addition to:

- Ability to provide on the job training or help oversee the work of other Power Systems Engineers and Interns.
- Execute multiple studies/tasks at any given time.
- Perform complex tasks according to good engineering practice and EPE procedures.
- Capable of autonomously and independently executing assigned tasks.
- Participate in multifunctional teams to obtain/provide input, address client comments, and perform technical studies.
- Assist in developing tools, processes, and procedures that enhance engineering study completion.

Performance Criteria:

- Quality of the study/task completed.
- Efficiency in task completion (at or below budget).
- Meeting deadlines.
- Growth of technical capabilities.

Qualifications & Skills:

- Proven knowledge of power system
- Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and analytical skills.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks.
- Flexible with the ability to manage change.
- Have high standards in producing quality reports and products that he/she shall own with pride.
- Strong technical report writing skills.

Required Education and Experience:

Staff I

- Bachelor?s degree in Electric Engineering with an emphasis in power systems

Staff II

- Bachelor?s degree in Electric Engineering with an emphasis in power systems
- 2 - 3 years of experience as a power systems engineer
- Experience performing power system impact studies such as Steady State, Short Circuit, and Dynamic Stability
- Experience with power systems software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, TSAT
- Experience automating/programing in Python.

Staff III

- Bachelor?s degree in Electric Engineering with an emphasis in power systems
- 3 - 4 years of experience as a power systems engineer
- Experience performing power system impact studies such as Steady State, Short Circuit, and Dynamic Stability
- Experience with power systems software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, and TSAT
- Experience automating/programing in Python.
