As the leader of the Golf Maintenance Team, the Golf Course Superintendent directs, coaches and coordinates the activities of workers engaged in the repair, maintenance of the golf course grounds, landscaping and related structures and buildings. This includes meeting or exceeding the established standards for guest and employee satisfaction along with expedient cost control for his/her department. As the Golf Course Superintendent, you must lead by example by taking a proactive position to all issues concerning the operation of the golf course. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

Key Responsibilities

Organizes and directs the functions of the Equipment Manager, the Landscape Supervisor, and the Assistant Superintendent. The Golf Course Superintendent remains in close contact, communicates and takes direction from the President and General Manager.

Interview and hire key staff positions.

Develop creative programs for the retention and recognition of employees under his supervision.

Responsible for the performance management of the Assistant Superintendent, Equipment Manager.

Functions as a coach in encouraging team members to be successful in both a professional and personal capacity.

Support and encourage succession plans for the team member of the golf course maintenance team by demonstrating a commitment to personal learning and development.

Maintain effective communication with all team members in regards to course operation, human resource issues. It is important that the Golf Course Superintendent demonstrate the core values and code of conduct through demonstration by example.

Develop/implement tracking tools to provide early detection of challenges.

Produce a timely annual budget that includes all expenses incurred in the maintenance of the golf grounds including landscape, and the maintenance on all the structures, buildings and systems supporting these grounds maintenance efforts.

Develop preventative maintenance programs.

Reviews quality control and budget statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.

Develops a program to periodically Spot-check machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.

Plans, develops and implements new methods and procedures designed to minimize maintenance costs.

Reviews new plans and discusses equipment needs and modification with President and GM.

Requisitions tools, equipment and supplies for use in maintenance operations.

Monitor expenditures to insure budget compliance.

Develop a three-year planning budget for capital appropriations after conferring with the President and GM. This plan will be updated and modified each year for fine-tuning.

Annually re-evaluate agronomic and equipment maintenance program and make the necessary recommendations to reflect new realities.

Assist the President and GM in establishing business goals through timely budgeting and capitol project planning.

Confer with management to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of equipment, systems and golf course.

Direct training and indoctrination of new employees and to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.

Create a shared vision for a stable golf maintenance environment.

Plans, develops and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve golf course conditioning

Consistently challenge yourself and your team to find innovative ways of doing more with less.

Bilingual SPANISH / ENGLISH is a must.



Education Requirements:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Turf Science, Landscape, Agronomy or similar field, or equivalent work experience.

Five years of proven experience as class A Superintendent or work equivalent.

Class A Superintendent in good standing and member of GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT AA.
